Welcome to our family camping website! My parents sent me off to summer camp for several years in my youth. I started off at a 1 week camp called Camp Toccoa (in Toccoa, GA). After that my parents sent me to a 4 week Jewish summer camp called Barney Medintz. The religious aspects were a bit boring to me and although the activities were entertaining, they were not very challenging. It was basically expensive babysitting. After Camp Barney I moved on to my final and favorite camp experience at Camp Mondamin (Tuxedo, NC), where main camp lasted just under 6 weeks. I had the time of my life at Mondamin, although I didn't really know it at the time. Mondamin had wonderful camping trips and adventures, but you didn't get to have those adventures for free. You had to work hard to get the necessary skills able to take those trips. We were required to pass tests in swimming, sailing, canoeing, climbing and other areas before they would would let us go on awesome 3 and 5 day trips to places like Toxaway Gorge, Fontana Lake, Linville Gorge and other great locations. Instead of being locked into boring activity schedules, we were allowed to freely pursue the activities we liked and then go all the way with them. The experiences and memories of Mondamin would stay with me forever. Once I started high school, other activities took priority (girls, music etc.) and camping became a distant memory (but a good memory). I thought about it off and on for years but never really did anything about it. Finally, now that I'm starting my own family, I've decided to do something about it. I raided REI and got geared up to start the camping adventure again. The best part is that our 5 year old son comes with us, and I know that when he gets older he will look back on these times and really cherish the memories. We're having so much fun sharing these experiences with our son! We can't wait to send him to Mondamin as soon as he's old enough (if he wants to go, of course). Anyway, site is dedicated to our camping adventures. We hope that you enjoy sharing our experiences! -Eric Siegel
